Our competition entry for a new apartment building in a small village Louka, in Czech republic. Instead of one large apartment building, which we believe is unsuitable for the village due to its spatial layout and mass, we envision three smaller houses that, in terms of scale, seek to fit in with the existing family homes that predominate in the village. Dividing the program into three houses also allows for phased construction. On a relatively small plot of land, it was quite a challenge to create a building or buildings that would not appear aggressive to the surrounding neighbors and at the same time would provide sufficient privacy for the residents of the houses. We opted for a solution of three simple structures situated on the perimeter of the plot, which are connected by an exterior gallery, thus creating communal spaces between the individual houses.
