BUS TERMINAL IN MARTIN

The current bus station in Martin, located in the city center next to the railway station, is no longer functionally or aesthetically satisfactory. It is bordered by railway buildings to the west, typical residential buildings to the east, a park to the north and a network of adjacent streets. We consider the lack of high-quality public space for passengers and pedestrians to be a key problem. We see the area as an opportunity to create a modern transport HUB – a safe, clear and functional space that will meet the standards of current European stations. Our design is based on the idea of a long “island/pie” located along the western border of the plot. It brings together all functions under one roof – the operational building, square, bus platforms, exit points, parking and facilities. The object designed in this way naturally disconnects from the existing garages and at the same time creates a new connection with the railway station via a square/piazzetta. The area is divided into two parts. The northern, public space intended for pedestrians and the southern, serving bus traffic. The Piazzetta in the northern part serves as a dispersion space, connecting the new waiting room and café with the existing story building and park.
